Happy Independence Day!

Posted by:

I’m taking the day off from my normal blogging topics! I hope you and your loved ones enjoy a safe celebration of the holiday.

Perhaps while you’re enjoying the parades, barbecues, and fireworks you might take a moment to pause and reflect on our Founding Fathers. They put their lives on the line to break away from England; they were men of means, of property, and risked losing everything just for this crazy idea of having their own free country.

Let’s not ...

The NRA Show is done. Not sure what day this is…

Posted by:

Just coming back from the whirlwind of the NRA Annual Meeting in Louisville, KY. Boy, am I tired…and I think I’m going to relax for a bit before I jump right back into the blogging thing.

Well, before that I have to tackle the pile of mail on my desk; then I have to unpack and get my dirty clothes into the laundry hamper; then I have a whole raft of emails that I didn’t bother answering while I was busy at the show.

Oh, ...

The FireClean/Tuohy lawsuit and its effect on the industry

Posted by:

I’m going to depart from my usual commentary to talk about something that’s happening in the industry.

You may have heard on social media that a lawsuit has been filed by a gun lubricant company against Andrew Tuohy, a popular blogger. I won’t recount the details here, but you can get the story at the Vuurwapen Blog site, and a third-party account at The Firearm Blog.

I’m not going to comment on the merits of the suit or of how ...

My job is helping my students discover what’s important. Sometimes that takes guts.

Posted by:

Techniques, gear, and even concepts can be cool and exciting — but that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily important to your self defense. My job, the way I earn my living, is to figure out what’s really important for my students and readers and then how to explain it to them. How and why do I do that?

Some people miss the point

One of the more interesting comments I hear (and I’m not the only one who gets these) comes in the form ...

On the Umpqua Community College killings.

Posted by:

I’ve had numerous emails and messages asking me what I know about the killings which took place in my backyard this morning.

What I can tell you is that I have relatives and friends in Roseburg, some of whom are hurting tonight. Evil came to a beautiful part of the country — my part of the country — and found some people unprepared. That’s what evil likes; it thrives in those environments.

I’m not going to advocate for more gun control, nor ...

The Weekender for 9/25/15: new SCCY pistol; a unique training opportunity; and support Forgotten Weapons!

Posted by:

I’m initiating a new feature here on grantcunningham.com: every Friday (or as close to every Friday as I can get) I’ll be bringing you the Weekender: a wrap-up of stories and links that I’ve found during the week, items that I believe you’ll find informative, inspiring, and sometimes even entertaining — all of them, of course, related in some way to the topics on my site!

For Friday, September 25, 2015:

A NEW ENTRY IN THE .380 ACP PISTOL MARKET: the .380ACP ...

What I’ve been doing lately, and some new class announcements for Threat-Centered training!

Posted by:

Whew! It’s been crazy around here lately!

I just got back from an unplanned consulting trip. As some of you might know, from time to time I do a little work with companies in the shooting industry. Some of those jobs have resulted in products, some will in the future, and occasionally there’s the company that decides maybe their product idea isn’t as good as it could be. In this case, I’m happy to say that I think we’ll see a ...

Welcome to the new GrantCunningham.com website!

Posted by:

This has been some time in the making!

Over the last year I’ve become dissatisfied with my site, because it didn’t reflect what I do and where the shooting world is going. My self defense and personal security articles were banished to my sister site (www.personalsecurity.us) and people coming here were treated to nothing but guns and shooting. Now don’t get me wrong — I like those subjects, but if you’ve read any of my self-defense books or articles on other ...

My house, my rules. Let’s review them.

Posted by:

My article from Wednesday generated some heated comments. Sadly, some were heated enough that I had to block two users – which brings the grand total of blocked users since this blog started to four. It’s not something I do very often, and I dislike the need to do so, but sometimes it’s necessary to maintain some semblance of civility. I want to foster discussion, but I don’t want this blog to turn into M4Carbine.com.

So, let’s review the rules for ...

My virtue remains unblemished: no hit-whoring here. No sir, not here.

Posted by:

Welcome to 2011! I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year’s celebration.

Whether you’re just tuning in, or you’ve been here for a while, I think it’s worth pointing out the three things that make my blog different from every other in the firearms/self defense field.

First, I long ago made the commitment to writing a large percentage of original content. That is, things that I wrote myself, as opposed to taking from others. My goal was (and still is) ...
