I’m fascinated by a lot of things. This wide, wonderful world is so full of interesting people and places and events and happenings that I find no need to read fiction. In fact, many people are amazed that I don’t read any fiction (save for the occasional Poe or Chandler tale, the latter being a guilty pleasure in which I indulge simply because of the colorful dialogue.) I find that real life is ever more interesting than any made-up story, which is probably why I don’t go to the movies very often nor watch much television, either.
Case in point: I was referred to a blog called “Fluent In 3 Months”, written by a fellow named Benny Lewis. Benny appears to be a kindred spirit of Timothy Ferris, at least in the lifestyle design department. He’s lived in 23 different countries, and he recently made a blog post titled “The 23 strangest habits you’ll pick up after living in 23 different countries“.
It’s great reading if for no other reason than to remind you that Americans are not, in fact, the center of the universe. People all over the world have different customs and habits, and it’s worth your while to learn about some of the little things that make everyone a little different from everyone else.
I think I’m going to start applauding whenever my plane lands.
